You can begin the driver education course when you are 14 years and 9 months old. You must be 15 to receive your permit and start behind-the-wheel lessons.

Classroom + Behind-the-Wheel
The driver education course teaches the theory of responsible driving. Emphasis is placed upon the introduction of driving mechanics, execution of most driving operations, and a thorough understanding of safe driving rules. The course meets all state driver education requirements, and the textbook used is the ADTSEA-adopted teen driver curriculum: AAA's How to Drive (15th edition). The curriculum is highly visual and interactive, so the novice driver learns how to effectively search and build strong risk awareness/mitigation, which will be applied during behind-the-wheels driving lessons. The course is offered in the following formats:
- In-Person - Take the course in a traditional classroom setting at your high school.
- Zoom - Take the course via Zoom with a live instructor at a set time each day.
- Online - Take the course online at your own pace. You are assigned an instructor to oversee your coursework, grade assignments, and answer questions.
Behind-the-wheel driving lessons include six hours of driving lessons and six hours of in-car observation. You must successfully complete the course, be paid in full, and have your instruction permit before you can start in-car lessons.
A down payment of $175 (in-person) or $185 (Zoom and online) is required to register. The remaining balance must be paid in full by the time the classroom portion is completed to schedule behind-the-wheel driving lessons.
