Behind-the-Wheel

Where are students picked up and dropped of for driving lessons?

All behind-the-wheel lessons begin and end at the high school you chose when you registered. No home pick-up or drop-off option is available. Your instructor will discuss this as your teen is assigned.

What do I do if my permit expires?

If you receive your permit and haven't started your behind-the-wheel training within 13 months of completing the driver education class, the state requires you to complete a 10-hour refresher course before you can get a new permit.

What happens if I miss a driving lesson?

The instructor must have a minimum of two students in the car to provide a driving lesson, absence by one student means the other student will also miss a lesson, and the length of time necessary to complete behind-the-wheel training will be extended.

If you cannot make your scheduled driving time, you must cancel at least 48 hours in advance or find another student to fill your place in the schedule. If you do not find a replacement or cancel at least 48 hours before the lesson, a $50 fee will be charged and the completion form will be withheld until the fee is paid.

Policies

What is your refund policy?

Please contact us at (608)588-3727 or email driversedsupport@cesa2.org to discuss refunds.

No refunds or transfer of registration fees between students will be issued after one year from the original registration date. There is a $50 processing fee for all refunds. All service fees for credit card transactions are non-refundable.

If your student has completed any portion of the online course, we will also withhold a portion of the registration fee for payment to the online instructor's time spent working with your student.

The cost of the textbook is non-refundable.

What do I do if I live out of district?

Students who do NOT live within a district where in-person classes are offered may register for a Zoom or online course. We are not able to provide the behind-the-wheel service to any student who does not live within our districts. If you take the online course with us, you will be issued the completion certificate upon completion to give your behind-the-wheel provider. If you registered at a district that you do not live within, you will be refunded the cost of behind-the-wheel less a processing fee.

How do I apply funds from the State of WI Grant?

Please create an account for your student and select the desired package.

Once the account is created, please forward the email that contains the coupon codes to joni.chandler@cesa2.org so the appropriate funds can be applied.

Can a foreign exchange student take driver education?

All foreign exchange student questions should be directed to Christine Bergan at christine.bergan@cesa2.org or 608-290-4663.

Can I split the cost into payments?

If you choose classroom only, payment must be made in full at the time of registration.

If you choose classroom and behind-the-wheel, a down payment is required to register. The remaining balance must be paid in full by the time the classroom portion is completed to schedule behind-the-wheel driving lessons.

When will the parent meeting be held?

The parent meeting is typically held on the last day of class. Please contact the instructor for your students class if you have additional questions regarding the time or date of the parent meeting.

If school is not in session, do you still offer the class?

Typically, if school is not in session, driver education classes are also not in session. This is at the discretion of the instructor. Snow days, holidays, teacher-in-service, and spring break will be discussed in class with the students.

What do I do if I do not complete the online course by the deadline?

There is a $50 fee for a 4-week extension. If you wish to purchase an extension, please contact us.

If you wish to transfer to a zoom or in person class session, there is a transfer fee of $15.

When can I start the online class and how long does it take?

You can start the course anytime after you receive the email containing login information and purchase the online book. The course must be completed in 20 weeks. The course must be completed before a student is eligible to receive an instruction permit and start behind-the-wheel training.

Can I begin my online course as soon as I register?

No. You must wait to be processed into the online course and receive your login information via email. This normally occurs within two business days but can take up to six business days.

How many days of class can be missed?

Fall, Winter, and Spring Sessions: Typically only two days (or four hours) missed is the limit, and the four hours will need to be made up. That is a lot of time to make up.

Summer Sessions: Attendance is mandatory. Any missed classes will result in having to retake the class.

The State of Wisconsin requires 30 hours of classroom instruction, and if this is NOT met it is an automatic failure.

Please note the days missed when you register so the instructor is aware of the absence. You will need to contact the instructor before the absences and obtain the make-up work. You will hand the assignments into the instructor for grading and comment upon their return.

Does CESA 2 offer driver education during the summer?

Yes. We run classroom and behind-the-wheel courses all year round.
